Hay fever season has started. This time of year can be really difficult for those who experience allergic symptoms. Hay fever is also known as 'Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis'. Usually it occurs in Spring and Summer depending on the airborne substance causing the allergy.
Whilst it is often necessary to take medication just to get through the day, there are many ways that you can support your symptoms. One of these is using essential oils.
If your space allows, diffusing essential oils can be really beneficial to relieve allergy symptoms.
Lavender and its sweet , floral, herbaceous and fresh aroma is calming, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. It can also relax your breathing.
Roman Chamomile can ease inflammation, relieve headaches, and also help with relaxation. It also has an antihistamine effect. Blue Chamomile has a higher content of azulene, (the chemical constituent that has an anti-inflammatory effect) and is a great choice for hay fever. If chamomile is from the plant family that provokes your allergy, it may make your reaction worse. Working with chamomile weeks before your hay fever steps in can boost your immune response to it.
Eucalyptus can support inflammation and congestion. Blends really nicely with lavender in a diffuser or steam inhalation.
Frankincense and Ravintsara blended together have had beneficial effects on blocked nasal passages, runny and itchy noses and sneezing.
All of these can be used in a steam inhalation which can be beneficial for symptoms quickly.
Love and best wishes
